Installing New Guide Rail Strips

It is nice to have Elena back. With my hospital stuff and her schedules this has been the first time in ages.
We spend several hours shooting a video on "Making Things Square" that we will put up on YouTube once done, and, yes, I will announce it here. The shoot went well and now I have a couple of full days of editing. "coming soon"

Elena looks at the box of the new product. It is part number 495209 for 197" replacement splinter guard. A 55" strip is available as 495207. They cost $30.00 and $16.00 respectively;y.

Elena starts the installation by lifting up the old black strip. This one came up rather easily.

On those guide rails where the strip did not peel back easily, Elena used a heat gun to loosen the strip.

Sal uses Acetone and an old chisel to clean the track of old adhesive.
Note - be sure to  store  cleaning rags outside when done. Do not leave them in the shop.

Elena takes the coil of strip and peels back the protective paper.

She starts carefully laying the replacement strip in the channel. She left a bit of strip at the start which she will trim later.

It takes only seconds to roll the new strip into position.

She uses a razor blade to cut the ends off flush to the rail.

She has clamped the guide rail and is making a shallow cut to trim the new strip.

Elena inspects the first cut of the strip. It is exact and smooth — quite different from the old black strip.
